A Visit to Susa

With Todd Bolen

Susa is one of the four capital cities of the Persian empire, and where the stories of Esther, Mordecai, Nehemiah, and Daniel all intersect, in the Hebrew Bible. It's a long way from Israel, and not an easy place to visit in these modern times. Ancient Persia is the modern nation of Iran. But Todd Bolen of Bibleplaces.com visited Iran a few months ago, and Susa was one of the main places he wanted to see. So we talked about his visit on these two programs.

Visiting Capernaum

With John DeLancey

Capernaum was the city that Jesus called home during his three years of ministry. You can see first century ruins at the archaeological site of Capernaum, as we saw when we visited Capernaum last year during our Book & The Space Archaeological Adventure Tour. The synagogue where John DeLancey recounted some of the Gospel stories of Jesus’ activities in Capernaum was built later, several centuries later, but probably on the same site as the synagogue from Jesus’ time.

Museum of the Bible Visit

With Susan Masten

The Museum of the Bible opened in Washington DC last November and is nearing the one million mark for visitors. There are a lot of Bibles on display, and there is also a lot of archaeology on display. The Israel Antiquities Authority and The Hebrew University Institute of Archaeology both have galleries. We talked with Susan Masten, Curator of Antiquities, about the museum’s first year, what’s on display, and strategic partnerships. That includes the museum’s sponsorship of a new dig in Israel at Tel Shimron.

Jesus & the Remains of His Day

With Craig Evans

Biblical Archaeology covers thousands of years of Old Testament history. It also includes three years of the public ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Professor Craig Evans of Houston Baptist University has a new book, Jesus and the Remains of His Day, that focuses on some of the most important archaeological discoveries that tell us about Jesus, his ministry, and the world he lived in. Jesus’ ministry was centered around the Sea of Galilee and today cities along the seashore are being excavated, including Magdala, the home of Mary Magdalene. But there’s a lot more, and we discuss these discoveries in these three programs.
