Shiloh Excavations Resume in 2017

With Scott Stripling

Scott Stripling is once again our guest to report on the end of the Associates for Biblical Archaeology excavation in Israel, this year at Shiloh, since they have closed the excavations at Khirbet el-Maqatir. Shiloh, of course, was the location of the tabernacle and the ark of the covenant for most of the almost 400 years (by the biblical account), between the time of the exodus and conquest and the establishment of the temple in Jerusalem in Solomon’s time. Many years ago an archaeologist told me that there wasn’t much left to excavate at Shiloh but that is apparently not the case, as Scott fills us in on what happened during this first season and what they are looking for in the seasons to come.

The Conquest and Archaeology

With Bryant Wood

The Exodus and Conquest is a murky period archaeologically. Many archaeologists believe that the archaeological evidence does not support the biblical account of what happened during that period. Bryant Wood is NOT one of those archaeologists. In fact, Bryant Wood has dedicated his archaeological career to investigating the evidence for the destruction of Jericho (about which we first interviewed him many years ago) and for the existence of the city of Ai, destroyed by the Israelites in Joshua 7 & 8. In the second half of a 2-part interview we discuss his perspective on what the evidence shows from Jericho, Hazor, and the site of Khirbet el-Maqatir, which he has been excavating for much of the last 20 years.

Jerusalem Tunnels

With Scott Stripling

After our discussion of the 2016 Khirbet el-Maqatir excavation season, Scott Stripling went on to tell us about exploring a 2,000-year old drainage tunnel near the Jaffa Gate, which may have connected Herod's palace with the Temple Mount.

Khirbet el-Maqatir 2016, part 2

With Scott Stripling

It’s the final season for this excavation, just completed in Israel. We talk with dig director Scott Stripling about the evidence they’ve found which he believes builds a convincing rationale for connecting Khirbet el-Maqatir with the site of Ai, from Joshua 7-8, including the final two socket stones from the city gate.
