Ashkelon Under Attack

With Prof. Daniel Master

Rockets were flying from Gaza aimed at Ashkelon in recent weeks. It’s quiet now and we took the opportunity for an archaeological update from Daniel Master, Professor of Archaeology at Wheaton College and currently the field director of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon, which has been actively uncovering the ancient history of this site since 1985. Ashkelon has a rich history, dating from the Canaanites to the Crusaders. It’s the home of the oldest arched city gate in the world (pictured), the largest dog cemetery in the world, and the Philistine city visited by Samson when he needed to pick up 30 suits of clothes to settle a wager that he lost during his wedding.
