Churches of the Holyland

With Tikva Levine

For the Christmas and Hanukkah season we’ve reached into the archives and retrieved a program that came out of our 1994 Book & The Spade Holyland tour. It’s a quick visit to some of the most well known churches in the Holyland, churches at locations associated with the life of Jesus Christ. Our tour guide, archaeologist Tikva Levine, shares information on the historical background of these churches.

The Copper Scroll

With Michael Wise

The Dead Sea Scrolls have been in the news lately, and almost continuously since they were first discovered in 1947. Out of all of the thousands of scrolls and scroll fragments, the most mysterious may be The Copper Scroll, a list of treasures inscribed not on parchment or papyrus, like all the others, but on copper. Almost 25 years ago I had a conversation about this unique document with Michael Wise, who is Scholar-in-Residence and Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Languages at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. The Copper Scroll is now in Jordan, where I have seen it on display at the Amman Antiquities Museum.
